How about them pinecones?

Writer's picture: forestcitytreeatsforestcitytreeats

Conifer cones can be eaten.Maybe you can't just pick one up and take a bite, but various parts of the trees are edible. And Spring is when we can forage them

Here coms the caveat: some cones should NOT be eaten. Ponderosa Pine (Pinus ponderosa), English yew, or common yew (Taxus baccata), are both toxic. So as ever, know what you pick before you eat it.

Harvesting is after the light green tips are formed. Then you will see the new cones starting. The tips are also edible.

Here is a good description of how to forage and mage Mugolio, a delicious savoury syrup to drizzle on everything!

So- let me know if you are interested in going harvesting cones and conifer tips. Also if you have trees that we can forage.
